Join the Harvard College Democrats and distinguished guests to celebrate U.S. Congressman Paul Hodes, our 2008 Rising Star of the Democratic Party. Through his fantastic career as attorney and philanthropist, Paul Hodes represents the new Democratic Party: the wing of young, committed, involved and gifted protectors of the middle and working classes, peace and defense, academics and the arts. His contributions to New Hampshire have been substantial, his devotion apparent---and contributions to come to the United States are more than promising. He is, more than anything, someone to watch: a true Rising Star in the Democratic Party. With delicious food, an ebullient atmosphere, and an elegant setting, the Harvard College Democrats Annual Gala is something you don't want to miss. Held Saturday, May 10th, 6:00pm Pforzheimer House Dining Hall. Purchase your tickets online below or email Christian at secretary@harvarddems.com.

After receiving a record 600 sign-ups already this year, the Harvard College Democrats are revving up for an active election season, which kicked off last night with an appearance by former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack at the club’s introductory meeting. Yesterday evening, a crowd of about 250 students, mostly freshman, packed into the Tsai Auditorium in CGIS to learn more about the Dems and to hear Vilsack, a fall 2008 Institute of Politics Fellow, articulate the problems America faces and how college students can make a difference.

A groundbreaking bus tour protesting Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, “Right to Serve” is an LGBT event in which everyone devoted to true equality—gay or straight, open or closeted, liberal or conservative—can participate. The day after finals end, students from Harvard College and the various graduate schools will embark on a weeklong journey that will highlight the injustice of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The bus tour will make four stops across the country; and at each stop, one openly gay Harvard student will attempt to enlist for military service. When their desire to serve is rejected, participants on the tour will sit-in at the recruitment station to highlight the injustice of denying a citizen the right to serve based solely on their sexual orientation.
